There is a lot of information out there about things that you can do to lose weight, but not much about the things that you should not do if you really want to shed off those extra pounds. Most of the time, we gain weight without knowing it – what was an additional 2 pounds is suddenly 10 then 50 and then its downhill (up?) from there.
So what are some of the things that you should not do if you want to lose weight? Let’s have a look at 3 of them:
1. Don’t buy larger clothes. Translation to your psyche is that its ok, we are gaining on some pounds but that’s ok, after all there’s something in the wardrobe that fits. That’s already tuned your mind into thinking that it can get away with those extra pounds. Let your wardrobe remain as it is and then work to fit into your regular old size.
2. Don’t think about your weight all the time. The way the world works, the more you think about something, the more likely you are to get it. So if you sit there thinking all the time about that weight, you are most likely going to gain more and more of it. Simply do what you’re supposed to do – eat better, work out, sleep better and then get it out of your head and go about your daily business.
3. Don’t compare. All those skinny models are not you. In fact, to earn a living they have to starve themselves. What you need to do is find out your ideal weight and aim for that. Comparison leads to stress, and stress leads to release of cortisone which is the hormone that is chiefly responsible for weight gain. Just work at being your ideal weight – there are calculators on the net, or you can ask your GP to work it out for you.
Most of these things have to do with the psychological part of losing weight. Remember that if your mind aint right about it, you might never really win. You need to know how to control your thoughts and your feelings so that you can lose weight effectively.
