Holidays can mean weight gain no matter how hard you try to stay away from unhealthy habits. Even if you try hard to stick to your bland diet plan, chances are that you will sneak into a fast food restaurant now and then, just to have a taste of those junk, fatty foods that you have not been served with for weeks or maybe months!

I know this from my own experience. I went on a very short vacation and ended up adding three pounds! Okay, not all of these pounds were fat that needed to be burn; a percentage of this weight gain was caused by water and fluid retention. Weight gain caused by fluid retention is only temporary and will go off within a few days, but FAT (and I am sure at least one of those three pounds was composed of fat) will need to be burnt!

Now let me tell you that I didn't really indulge myself too much in that vacation. Everyday I and my spouse would walk for at least two hours, of course, for sight-seeing. We also indulged in some surfing as well. I didn't even eat a lot of junk foods - thankfully I have the kind of self-discipline needed to stick to my diet even when there are gracious fast food restaurants available close-by. Still I ended up adding some pounds, as I told you. Funny thing is that my husband didn't put on any weight!

No matter how hard you try, you WILL indulge yourself in the so-called 'forbidden foods', especially when you are on a vacation. This is how most people end up gaining weight at the end of each year even when they have worked so hard at the beginning of the year that it would seem like they are finally on their way to weight loss success!

In this article I will tell you about some holiday weight loss tips that I have learnt from my experience:

1. Avoid calorie rich drinks: Whenever you are thirsty, drink a glass of water and avoid soft drinks. If you want to eat fruit juice, buy a raw fruit and crush it at home yourself instead of buying packaged fruit juices. Avoid soda and beer as much as possible. Remember that soft drinks, soda, beer and processed food juices are all very rich in calorie content, and therefore, will cause quick weight gain.

2. Eat raw fruits and vegetables: You will often be tempted to eat fried foods when you are on a vacation, but is indulging yourself like this worth it if you have to workout in the gym for hours as soon as you return home? To keep your weight in check, you should try to eat vegetables and fruits in raw form, as they contain fewer calories and more nutrition than fried foods . If you want to have meat then always try to have lean chicken meat! Salads are also recommended.
